Bespoke. An adjective beloved by marketers and tailors alike.
Bespoke has become a synonym for quality. It flatters the buyer.
Buy this new suit so people know what great taste you have.
Buy this dress so people will know how rich and clever and attractive you are.
But it has another definition that most people overlook.
Made for the customer. Made to their expectations. Made to fit their exact needs.
Marketers, web-designers and copywriters alike throw this word around like it is meaningless. I know I have in the past.
Most marketers use and abuse bespoke so often it has started to mean its opposite.
Its opposite is - Off the shelf. Ready made.
Honestly stated it currently means ‘our business' prepared solution for your unique problem.’
Stop lying to your customers and start giving them a truly bespoke service. It isn’t about using fancy fonts or expensive fabrics. It is about engaging them throughout the project.
